FAQ

Please view the detailed › Henle Library App user manual here.

1. Questions about purchasing scores

We are continuously adding more sheet music editions from our range to the Henle Store. Our aim is to publish the whole catalogue online as soon as possible. If you are waiting for your favourite edition to appear, please let us know by emailing wishlist@henle-library.com. We may be able to bring forward its publication. You can view the current status of the Henle Library catalogue here.

The credit system allows greater pricing flexibility and offers our customers two benefits: Firstly, you can save up to 25% by purchasing a larger bundle of credits instead of just a few. Secondly, you can purchase short pieces for just very few credits, below the lowest in-app purchase tier.

10 credits are worth approx. €1/$1. However, the more credits you purchase, the cheaper they become. For instance, 1,000 credits cost only €75 instead of €100.

2. Questions about using the scores

In the settings menu of the score you will find a print option. On Android devices you automatically have the option of printing to PDF. On iOS devices you can use a zoom gesture in the print preview to create a PDF, which you can then also use in other apps (click here for a detailed description).

You can “delete” scores, however this only deletes scores, annotations and recordings from your device; they still remain available in the cloud. You will need to re-download the scores if you wish to use them again – you do not, of course, have to purchase them again.
If you wish to “delete” the scores, navigate to your library and swipe to the left above the entry that you want to delete. If the scores are no longer on your device, the entry is greyed-out and a cloud icon appears to the right. Tap on the entry if you wish to re-download the associated score.

Yes. Select these settings in the Score Display menu.

If you tap and hold on part of the score, or touch the score with the Apple Pencil, the annotation mode will open. To make your annotations you can either select a pen from the upper section, or you can use the text function. At the bottom you have a selection of musical signs that you can drag onto the score (click here for a detailed description).

If you tap and hold somewhere on the score, or touch the score with the Apple Pencil, the annotation mode will open. You can now select the eraser at the top of the screen. Then tap on individual signs or annotations to delete them.

You can create different annotation layers in each sheet music edition. To view your different score annotations, click on the layer icon at top left while in annotation mode. You can also add new layers here.

Yes. Symbols are only deleted from the currently active annotation layer. Switch to “Original scores” in the list of score annotations and you will find the symbol again.

You can share your annotations with others provided that the recipient has also purchased the same scores (with his Henle App) and downloaded them to his device. To do this, use the upload icon next to the annotation that you want to share (click here for a detailed description).

Swipe to the left on the title of the annotation layer or recording. A “delete” field appears. Your annotations and recordings are always stored together with your scores in the cloud, unless you delete them in this way. However, they remain available in the cloud even if you have deleted the scores from your device without first having explicitly deleted the annotations and recordings.

3. General questions about using the app

The “Henle Library” app runs on the iPad 2 and higher and on the iPad Mini 1 and higher (the iPad Air and higher and iPad Mini 2 and higher are recommended; performance limitations must be expected on tablet PCs with lower specifications). The large iPad Pro models offer the optimum way of using the app thanks to their large screen size – and also because they facilitate the use of the Apple Pencil. The app also runs on tablets with Android version 5.0 or higher and “large” screen size (Android definition). It does not run on smartphones.
If there is a corresponding demand for other systems, such as Windows tablets, we may also consider developing the app to run on these systems too.

The app is available in English, German, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. If your tablet PC is configured to use one of these languages, the app will automatically be displayed in that language. Otherwise, the default language is English. iOS also determines language preferences by considering past languages used on your device. This means that you can temporarily set your iPad to one of the languages stated above and then set it back to another language later. The app will then be displayed in the language that you had set temporarily.

We recommend PageFlip Cicada or Firefly pedals.
In general, all Bluetooth pedals that can generate arrow left/arrow down or arrow right/arrow up keystroke signals should work with the app. If you wish to use the double tap function for automatically returning to the beginning of repeats, your pedal must support this function. Unfortunately, this currently does not appear to be the case with the popular Airturn Duo pedal.
Sometimes it can take several seconds for the app to recognise the pedal.

All printers that are compatible with AirPrint should work with the app. With Android devices, printing should be possible with all WLAN-enabled printers. Alternatively, with both iOS and Android devices, you can generate a PDF file of the scores (see above) and then send it, for instance, to an e-mail address. You can also send it directly to an Apple device via AirDrop and then print your score using a simple, cable-connected printer.

All of the scores you have purchased and all of the annotations that you have made are stored in the cloud. This means that you can access and use your data from various devices. Once you have downloaded them from the cloud they are also stored on your device. This allows you to access these scores and annotations on your device, even if you do not have an active internet connection.
Annotations that you have made using one device will also be downloaded to the device you are currently using. You will be prompted to decide whether or not you would like to download these annotations.

It is not possible to upload PDFs to the app because the app uses a different data format. This format allows you to edit the score with far greater flexibility, enabling you – for instance – to adapt the layout to suit your individual needs or to switch between different fingerings.

4. Potential technical problems

First of all, please ensure that you have a good internet connection. Should you still be unable to download your scores the most probable cause is a bug that very rarely occurs. Delete the app from your device and download it once again from the App Store or the Google Play Store. You will then be able to download all of your scores and annotations from the cloud again.

When you log in again, e.g. because you are using a different device, the app needs a little time before the scores that you have already purchased are loaded. This can take up to thirty minutes in the case of a large library. Please have a little patience and ensure that you have a good internet connection during this time.

The app uses the existing working memory of your device to generate a file that will then be printed. On older devices and with larger scores it can happen that insufficient memory is available. Unfortunately, the app then crashes without warning. If this happens, please close any other open apps and try again. In the case of multi-movement works, please print each movement individually in order to avoid a crash.

Please ensure that you have a good internet connection.
Close the app by double-clicking on the Home button and then swiping the app upwards.
Ensure that you are correctly logged-in by clicking on your credits at bottom left. You will then see your account page.
Should you encounter problems that cannot be solved as described above, please contact support at: app-user-support@henle.de

HENLE STORE WITH WISHLIST

The catalogue of the “Henle Library” app is constantly growing. We are working on being able to offer all of our company’s Urtext editions available in print in digital form by the end of 2020. Many important titles are already available today in the “Henle Store” in the app (= homepage).

If you miss a title there, please send us an e-mail (in German, English or Chinese):
wishlist@henle-library.com

We will then try to answer your title request as soon as possible. How you can search for and find sheet music in the Henle Store of the app is described › here.

APP ACCESSORIES

For scrolling through the digital sheet music, we recommend the use of a Bluetooth pedal (see  FAQ above).

Using an iPencil (iOS) or a digital pen for Android tablets makes working in › annotation mode easier.

Protect your iPadPro (12.9'' | 32.78 cm) from Apple with our high-quality linen › Cover for iPad Pro (with embossing).

UPDATES

The “Henle Library” app runs on iPad 2 and higher, on iPad Mini 1 and higher (recommended are iPad Air and higher, as well as iPad Mini 2 and higher; performance may be restricted with older versions) and on tablets working with Android 5.0 or higher and screen size “large” (Android definition). It does not run on smartphones.

The “Henle Library” app is continuously optimised. We develop new functions, improve existing ones and also take care of minor defects ("bugs”).

Updates of the app can be obtained from the App Store or the Google Play Store. If you have configured your tablet accordingly, these updates will be downloaded and installed automatically. Otherwise, you should visit the stores regularly to check for updates.

You can identify updates for sheet music you have already purchased, such as new › fingerings and bow stroke offers, by the Update button that appears in your library next to the corresponding title. Tap on the icon to load the new version of the sheet music into your library. Of course, all your settings and individual annotations for this title will remain unchanged.

If you discover any errors in the behaviour of the app, please contact us by e-mail:
